Too bad, because it's not actually difficult to add the links to the GEDCOM. The extracted GEDCOM has absolutely no information in it to link pictures or other media, so I guess this will continue to be a one-way transfer. I did, in fact, sign up for a subscription on TP and tried a download. Hi Marie, so glad that you turned up, as your experiance knows no bounds However it is definitely better to work one individual at a time as it find matches as soon as a name is entered I also allows loading photos, documents, etc and you can do merges either in your program or online in their tree. THe other alternative is Family Search's Family tree which will sync with Roots Magic, Legacy and several other programs. Since I use Roots Magic, I can load the gedcom into a new RM file, open the new file and my master in the same window and drag the new information across. So I just collect the information that comes from the links - download the new gedcom from the site and add the new information into my main file offline. I have talked with Heritage representatives about the merge question and there really is no good way to handle the problem with their software for online tress- they suggested just starting a new tree - but of course that means losing the links. THe pictures that I have loaded remain and as long as I don't change a person's name they reconnect. For TP this means, Using the backup facility ( so if I mess up, TP can restore my tree) and them loading the updated gedcom. I do ALL my editing on my computer based tree and reload my trees with gedcoms. However it is definitely better to work one individual at a time as it find matches as soon as a name is entered.Īdjustments it doesn't cope well with them when syncing. I have the FTB program but find that if I make many merge adjustments it doesn't cope well with them when syncing. ![]() Jerry - I have trees on both Heritage and Ancestry but I keep my main ones on Tribalpages - the others I use for 'fishing' for contacts. I'll probably give it a try and see how it goes. ![]() That probably means I would have to re-sync on my local computer as well after bringing the GEDCOM back. Are there additional tools if I pay for a subscription? I don't see a reference.įTB comes with a 'sync' option to the MyHeritage site, but it's quite a bit more expensive than TribalPages, so I'd like to economize a bit. But it looks to me like I'll have to re-link each one individually after I upload them to Tribal Pages.Īny ideas? There are about 500 photos, so it would be quite a job. (I also have PAF.) FTB creates a subfolder containing all the pictures that were referenced in the GEDCOM. On my computer, I'm using 'MyHeritage Family Tree Builder' to create the GEDCOM file. But I don't see an elegant way to load my photos without having to re-link them all again manually. I created a GEDCOM file and uploaded it, which worked nicely. I've created the 'MillerHiggins' site on Tribal Pages with this in mind. I am considering using Tribal Pages as my main family tree repository, primarily because Lani Baker Mitchell has done such a nice job with her site 'bakerchild'.
